Ashian Ensemble is a contemporary music collective dedicated to the performance and development of new works for two pianos and flexible instrumentation, with a focus on emerging and early-career Asian and Asian-diaspora composers. Founded by pianist-composer Runchen Li and pianist Bo Zhang, the ensemble is based in Boston and operates as a curatorially driven platform for new music creation, collaboration, and performance.
In 2026, Ashian Ensemble was selected to participate in the Yarn/Wire Institute, where its work was developed under the mentorship of the ensemble, culminating in a final performance. The ensemble is concurrently launching an international Call for scores engaging young composers across major institutions in the United States, Asia, and Europe. Selected works will be presented at New England Conservatory, accompanied by professional audio recording and multi-camera video documentation.
Positioning itself at the intersection of institutional training and independent artistic initiative, Ashian Ensemble is committed to fostering a new generation of composers through the creation of repertoire, sustained collaboration, and the development of platforms for performance and documentation.
